A text-to-speech approach for voice messages: the caller robot

By: David Yuri

Certainly, we’ve all encountered the occasion of having a so called conversation with a robot at the other end of a telephone call. It happens most of the times with customer service issues, where a robot is set to manage current customer related matters. But have you ever tried to send voice messages managed by a caller robot? If you haven’t, but your curiosity was stimulated by the thought, then it is time you found out about some of the attributes of such a robot.

First of all, a caller robot is another advanced approach of communicating (and this is communication between people, even if a robot conveys your message) in rewarding circumstances to what concerns two thorny issues people are dealing with daily: time and money. That is to say that voice messages transmitted with the assistance of a caller robot will spare both your time and money. Such a “phenomenon” takes place on account of the highly developed stage of communication technologies and also owing to the numerous options people are offered in the name of better, faster and cheaper communication.

Here’s one thought (perchance yours as well): of course, a caller robot is a sign of technologic progress, but how does it work more precisely? Well, basically you will type your messages. There is no need to record them; you simply enter them, word by word, in the box intended for the placement of your messages. After that they will be dealt with by the caller robot so as to be turned into voice messages. Next, the caller robot will operate a phone call to the number indicated by you and the voice messages are automatically played when the receiver picks up the phone.

It is all a matter of text-to-speech transfer. A caller robot will synthesize human speech after having registered the data offered by the typed text. In this manner, your voice messages are read by the caller robot in a way as natural and as intelligible as possible. Don’t worry about the authenticity of the caller robot’s voice. Owing to the progress reached by high-tech tools, the sound production will very much resemble human speech, more than you could imagine.

To what concerns the fluency of your voice messages, once again there is no need to worry. Voice messages conveyed by call robots are understood with ease. Subsequently, combining authenticity and fluency is not an impossible demand for caller robots.

Look at the robot that will give voice to your messages the way you look – and trust – an ultra-advanced, perfected system. Practically, you deal with an engine within which text and sounds are processed and associated into what will result as a natural voice transmission of your communication.

Also, generally, voice messages operated by call robots come with a range of choices: you can opt for the kind of voice you think appropriate for the communication of your message. In addition, as peculiar as it may sound, each robot voice is given a name, a regular name, an age, and a language it speaks.

At a closer look, there is nothing peculiar about it; it is just a manner of better identifying the robot voice. After normalizing the text of the message – i.e. after differentiating among the input scripts so as to “make sense” (in computer terms) of the sequence of characters – the robot will direct phonetic notations to each word and then separate the text into clauses and sentences. Only after the phonetic assignment will the robot translate it into human, intelligible sounds.

Subsequently, the text-to-speech approach is the procedure which will most effectively handle your voice messages through a call robot. It is another method of communication optimization. To what concerns the choice of languages, they range from English (US and UK, to some the UK English conveyed by a robot’s voice will sound astoundingly first-class), to German, French (a fairly appealing Isabelle voice), Italian and Spanish. One final note of caution: shenanigans which could have upsetting consequences can be traced, since a call robot program is also equipped with a system of caller IP identification.
