Magazines for Women

By:

We're seeing an amazing number of new women's magazines each year. Add them to the already existing ones, and the number is staggering. They can really add up, so how does someone make the choice of which ones to buy? Many of them are written for a certain type of woman, such as a certain age or profession. Before investing, check out any magazines you're interested in and make sure it's targeting you.

If you are in your teens there are numerous magazines that are geared specifically towards you. Seventeen and YM were typically the only teenager magazines even as recently as 7 years ago. Now there is a surge in great teen magazines including Teen People, and Teen Vogue. If relationship advice isn’t really your thing, Teen People focuses on not only celebrities but fashion advice as well. Teen Vogue is great for the young fashionista looking for what is hot and trendy for their age group. These magazines are great too since they encourage readers in their late teens as well.

If you're a young 20-something, then Cosmopolitan is definitely your cup of tea. It has long been heralded as the must-read for finding out about fashion, relationships and of course, gossip. Another super magazine for this age group is Jane magazine. Its focus is on the more outrageous celebrities as well as fashion advice. Their writers produce fresh and fascinating articles, often about unique new books and music. Mademoiselle is another tried-and-true magazine with excellent articles and fashion suggestions.

Glamour is a good read for the late 20-something woman. Its favorite topics include women's issues and articles for professional women. Their fashion advice is also up to the minute, but also practical. In Style is also popular with this demographic. It is hip and trendy, with a hint of the classical. You will find fashions from all the hottest designers of the moment. Vogue has always been the defining magazine for seasonal fashion. It features remarkable ensembles that are too expensive and outrageous for most of us, but it is so much fun to read up on the hippest designers and their newest lines.

There are many more women’s magazines available. Some offer excellent practical advice, and others are just fun to look at. The newsstand price can seem very expensive for some magazines, but if you read it on a monthly basis consider getting a subscription. Most magazines have offers that, in some cases, will save you up to 50% if you purchase a year subscription. Magazine subscriptions also make excellent gifts for that hard to buy for friend who seems to have everything.
